Next week, we will be starting our unit on "A Christmas Carol", which speaks a lot to the importance of philanthropy. To prepare, we will be working on research projects focused on the concept of philanthropy. Students will have the opportunity to work with a partner, or they can work individually if they prefer. Class time will be given each day, and students will be made aware at the conclusion of each class how much time will be allotted for the following day's class. On Thursday, October 9th, students were asked to submit their rough draft of their Literary Analysis Essay. This means we're only a week away from handing in the final copy. Next week will be spent introducing counterarguments, revising, peer reviewing, and editing. Here's a sneak peek at what next week's schedule will look like:
MONDAY, OCTOBER 13TH: No School (Columbus Day) TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH: Counterarguments WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15TH: Editing THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16TH: Catch-up Day FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17TH: Final copy of essay due! As is the case each and every week, all Eagles are expected to meet their individual Weekly Reading Goal by the conclusion of each week. Monday, Sept. 29th: Drafting Essays
What to have done for Tuesday: Continue working out "Claim Outline" in preparation for drafting process. What to have done for next class: Be prepared to discuss (in small groups) whichever theme you decided to "write long" about at the end of today's class. Wednesday, September 24: Reading Closely to Develop Themes What to have done for next class: Find at least two specific scenes which lend support to the theme you have written long about. Thursday, September 25: Fine-Tuning Themes by Studying Author's Craft What to have done for next class: Tomorrow, you will need the essay you will write all planned out.
