The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) raise the bar for student learning. They are so critical, in fact, that nearly every state in the nation has adopted CCSS as consistent standards for student achievement.
This year, my goal is to link each class assignment with its corresponding CCSS. I will do by best to list the CCSS on the Assignments tab with the assignment information, and I will also try to list the CCSS on PowerSchool with the assignment and its grade.
Grading will be different for me this year for that reason. Please see Ms. Wu's video below to learn how she has inspired my grading plan based on the content area strands of the CCSS.
For each assignment linked to the CCSS, I will assign a grade based on student achievement within each CCSS content strand:
Reading: Literature - 18%
Reading: Informational Texts - 18%
Writing - 18%
Speaking & Listening - 18%
Language - 18%
Citizenship & Participation - 10%
Grades in the PowerSchool gradebook will appear as follows:
Student HAS ACHIEVED the standard:
100 - Student demonstrates understanding of the concept with distinction.
90 - Student demonstrates understanding of the concept.
Student HAS NOT YET ACHIEVED the standard:
80- Student is beginning to demonstrate understanding of the concept and is working toward achieving the standard.
70 - Student demonstrates partial understanding of the concept.
60 - Student has not yet begun to demonstrate understanding of the concept.
0 - Student has not yet completed the assigned material corresponding with the concept or standard.
